The Thoroughgood House in Virginia Beach is an iconic landmark that has been standing since the mid-1700s. It is one of the oldest surviving Colonial homes in all of America, and is believed to have been built by Adam Thoroughgood between 1719 and 1720. The historic house is located on Princess Anne Road near the Norfolk Botanical Garden, and it serves as a reminder of the rich history of the region. Upon visiting The Thoroughgood House, visitors are welcomed by a two-story brick structure that features detailed woodwork and beautiful gardens. Inside the home, there are original features such as wide planked floors, five mantel fireplaces, Federal style windows, and hand-forged iron hinges on its doors which remain virtually unchanged from when they were constructed centuries ago. It also contains relics from various different periods of time including furniture from the 1700s as well as items from later eras such as glassware from around 1880.
