The Thoroughgood House in Virginia Beach is an iconic landmark that has been standing since the mid-1700s. It is one of the oldest surviving Colonial homes in all of America, and is believed to have been built by Adam Thoroughgood between 1719 and 1720. The historic house is located on Princess Anne Road near the Norfolk Botanical Garden, and it serves as a reminder of the rich history of the region. Upon visiting The Thoroughgood House, visitors are welcomed by a two-story brick structure that features detailed woodwork and beautiful gardens. Inside the home, there are original features such as wide planked floors, five mantel fireplaces, Federal style windows, and hand-forged iron hinges on its doors which remain virtually unchanged from when they were constructed centuries ago. It also contains relics from various different periods of time including furniture from the 1700s as well as items from later eras such as glassware from around 1880. Although tours inside The Thoroughgood House are offered periodically throughout the year, visitors can learn more about its history at any time through interactive exhibits located nearby. Its exterior architecture has also inspired many similar structures in the surrounding area due to its unique design and location within Virginia Beach's historic district. Whether visitors simply come to admire its beauty or take a closer look at its history, The Thoroughgood House offers something for everyone who visits this storied landmark in Virginia Beach.
