The Navy SEAL Monument in Virginia Beach is a solemn and inspiring tribute to the United States Navy’s Special Warfare Command and their dedicated servicemen, who train hard and risk their lives daily for our freedom. It stands almost 8 feet tall, with the bronze main figure portraying a SEAL holding an American flag in one hand and an M14 rifle in the other. This powerful sculpture stands atop a granite pedestal with four engraved seals at each corner symbolizing the SEAL Teams that make up the Special Warfare Command – Navy SEALS, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technicians, Special Boat Operators, and Combat Camera Personnel. The monument also includes a memorial wall inscribed with quotes from famous Navy SEALs, such as Richard Marcinko's quote "Victory favors those who make the best preparations", highlighting their commitment to excellence. The monument was officially dedicated on June 27th 2010 by then-U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus in honor of all those who proudly serve or have served in this elite force. The dedication ceremony included a 21-gun salute accompanied by a stirring performance of taps from a bugler playing from the nearby Naval Air Station Oceana Airfield Tower. This monument is more than just an impressive piece of art; it stands as an everlasting reminder of courage and resilience, representing all that our nation holds dear.
