The Naval Aviation Monument Park in Virginia Beach is a stunning tribute to the bravery and dedication of the many men and women who have served in the United States Navy over the years. The large park, which covers over four acres, features several memorials honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Towering above all of these monuments is an awe-inspiring memorial sculpture of a bald eagle with wings spread wide, standing atop a column that reads “Dedicated to All Who Serve.” In addition to this impressive sculpture, there are numerous statues and plaques commemorating various aspects of naval aviation history. One such monument honors Rear Admiral William Henry Shapley, a pioneering aviator and Medal of Honor recipient during World War II who was one of the first pilots to land on an aircraft carrier. There are also replicas of historic aircraft such as the Boeing PT-17 Stearman and Grumman F8F Bearcat. The monument park even includes a war dog memorial dedicated to service dogs used by the armed forces during times of war. The park serves as an excellent educational resource for visitors looking to better understand more about our nation's military heritage, while providing a peaceful setting in which to pay respects to those who have gone before us in service of our nation.
