The seven peaks that make up the summit offer hikers stunning views of the San Juan Mountains and sweeping vistas of the surrounding area. With an elevation gain of over 5,000 ft at its highest point, it's no surprise that this peak can be quite daunting.
The hike begins at the top of Bear Creek canyon and continues to a lush meadow and forest with plenty of wildflowers on the way up. After leaving the meadow, hikers will traverse through several switchbacks before reaching the first peak: Pilot Knob. From here, you’ll have stunning views of both Bear Creek Canyon and Ingram Basin below.
The next peak on your journey is Anderson Peak which offers incredible panoramic views of all seven peaks from its summit. Be sure to take some time here to soak in all that beauty! As you continue your ascent you’ll cross another meadow and climb steeply upwards until you reach Sneffels Pass. Here you’ll find an old cabin which marks your halfway point to the summit.
From Sneffels Pass you’ll begin climbing towards Windy Point where you can catch your breath before starting the last stretch to Twin Peaks – two summits connected by a ridge. From Twin Peaks you’ll begin descending down one side until finally reaching Teakettle Mountain – your final destination! Not only do these peaks provide breathtaking scenery but they also offer amazing solitude; it’s not uncommon for hikers not to encounter anyone else along their journey which makes it even more special!
