Location: Sugar Mountain is located in the western part of North Carolina near Brevard. It's about an hour from Asheville and about an hour and a half from Charlotte.
Height: The summit of Sugar Mountain reaches an elevation of 6,684 feet.Terrain: The trails on Sugar Mountain are very steep and challenging, making it perfect for hikers, mountain bikers, and runners. There are also several lifts that can take you up to the summit for a 360-degree view.
How to get there: The easiest way to get to Sugar Mountain is by car. You can drive up I-40 or I-26 until you reach Brevard where you'll need to take Highway 74 west towards Black Mountain. Once you reach Black Mountain, turn left onto Highway 7464 and follow it until you reach the entrance to the park. If you're arriving by bike or foot, there are several ways to get there as well. You can take the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville or Charlotte, or you can take the Appalachian Trail from Georgia.
When to go: The best time to visit Sugar Mountain is in the summer when the weather is warm and the trails are dry. However, if you're looking for a challenge, winter is also a great time to visit as the snow and ice make the trails even more difficult.
What to bring: No matter what time of year you visit Sugar Mountain, be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. There are several waterfalls on the mountain, so if you get thirsty, you'll be able to fill up your water bottle. You should also wear appropriate clothing for the weather and bring a map of the mountain.
Fees: There is a $5 fee to enter Sugar Mountain, and parking is $3 per day. If you're planning on hiking or biking, you'll need to purchase a trail pass for $5 per day.
