Telfair Museums in Savannah, Georgia is a trio of museums dedicated to bringing the wonders of art, history and nature to the city. Founded in 1886 by the Telfair family, these institutions are recognized for their unique collections and creative programming.
The first museum, the Telfair Academy of Arts & Sciences, is housed in a restored 1820s mansion known as the Owens-Thomas House. It showcases an impressive collection of over 4,000 works from Old Masters to contemporary artists from around the world. Highlights include European paintings from before 1900; modern art including works by Picasso; and African American Art from the 19th century through today. In addition to its permanent collection, the Academy also hosts temporary exhibitions that explore relevant topics in art and culture.
Next is the Jepson Center For The Arts which opened its doors in 2006. Its modern design houses changing exhibitions and features interactive activities that bring art alive for visitors of all ages. The Jepson also has a dedicated Tot Spot space designed specifically for young children to explore their artistic side through hands-on activities and interactive exhibits.
Finally there is Telfair's newest addition: The Oval Sculpture Garden which opened in 2009.
