History San José is a non-profit organization that works to preserve and celebrate the heritage of San Jose, California. Founded in 1975, the organization collects and preserves artifacts, photographs, documents and other materials related to the histories of San Jose’s people and places. In doing so, History San José helps to provide historical context for current issues facing the community.
The organization also operates five historic sites located throughout the city: Peralta Adobe-Fallon House Historic Site, KAOS Network Radio Museum, Pacific Hotel & Barringer Building, Portuguese Historical Museum and The Tech Interactive (formerly The Tech Museum of Innovation). Each of these locations serves as a gathering place where residents can learn about the city’s incredible history and culture.
In addition to its preservation efforts and museum sites, History San José offers educational programming for all ages. Educational programs include walking tours of Downtown San Jose , lectures by historians on various topics related to area history, workshops on such topics as genealogy research and quilting methods used by pioneers in early California history.
