Abravanel Hall is a performing arts center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The hall is named for noted conductor and Utah Symphony founder Maurice Abravanel. It is the home of the Utah Symphony and the Ballet West company. The hall opened on October 5, 1979, with a gala concert featuring Leonard Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic. The 2,500-seat auditorium was designed by architect Cesar Pelli and acoustician Russell Johnson of Artec Consultants, Inc. In the 1990s, renovations to the hall added an orchestra pit, increasing the capacity to 2,750. The lobby and concourse areas were also renovated and expanded. In 2003, the hall underwent a major exterior renovation, which added a new glass atrium entrance and updated the building's facade.
