The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum in Saint Augustine is a charming and historic property that has been preserved to showcase the rich history of the city. This house was built in 1798 by Andres Ximenez, a Spanish Loyalist who settled in Saint Augustine after fleeing Havana. The house quickly became an important landmark in the city’s social landscape, as it hosted numerous parties and prominent visitors such as Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, and Martin Van Buren.
Today, the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the past of Saint Augustine. The main building is a two-story structure made from coquina blocks with a central courtyard surrounded by galleries. It features period furnishings and decorative arts from 18th- and 19th-century Florida. The museum also includes an African American Exhibit which highlights the stories of slaves living in Florida during this time period. Additionally, there is a beautiful courtyard garden which features plants native to the area, including citrus trees and magnolias.
Additionally, every Tuesday through Saturday at 11:30 am guests can enjoy tea time where they can sip tea or coffee on the veranda while learning about the history of Saint Augustine and its people through engaging stories shared by knowledgeable guides.
