Chapel on the Dunes is a historically important place of worship located in Port Aransas, Texas. It was built in 1939 and is the only building that remains from the original town. This small chapel has been a pivotal part of religious life in the area for more than 80 years, having stood through numerous hurricanes and remaining as a symbol of hope and faith throughout its history. The chapel is constructed with wood framing and cedar shingle siding, while its interior holds pews crafted from cypress harvested in local swamps. Its stone altar and walls were assembled by hand using stones found by local fishermen along the shoreline.
The Chapel on the Dunes has long been an important focal point for many communities within Port Aransas. It continues to serve as an open house of worship for locals and visitors alike, offering Sunday services each week by volunteer pastors throughout the season.
