The Plaza De Luna Memorial Monument stands as a testament to Pensacola Beach’s long-standing connection to its cultural past. The cylindrical structure is made up of four sections, each representing one of the four main groups that composed Pensacola Beach’s original population: Mestizo, African American, Native American, and European. The base of the monument features a plaque which reads: “In Remembrance Of Our Ancestors Who Traveled Here To Build This City And Establish Its Values That Remain To This Day."
The two-story memorial also bears a large bronze medallion depicting an image of Presidio Santa Maria de Galve (the former fort built by Spanish settlers), which serves as an acknowledgement of the founding of Pensacola Beach. Additionally, this monument serves as a reminder that it was originally these first inhabitants who developed Pensacola Beach’s unique culture and identity. Inscribed around its summit are words that read "Where History Lives".
