The Indian Canyons are a group of canyons in the Coachella Valley of Southern California, United States. They are located on the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians reservation land in Palm Springs, California. The canyons are traversed by several hiking trails and contain a stream that flows year-round.
The main canyon, Andreas Canyon, was named after Andreas Martinez, an early rancher in the area. The other canyons are Tahquitz Canyon , Murray Canyon, and Palm Canyon .
The Indian Canyons have been inhabited for over 2,000 years by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The Cahuilla people have a long and rich history in the canyons and continue to use them today for cultural and spiritual practices.
The canyons are home to a diversity of plant and animal life. The native fan palm (Washingtonia filifera) is found only in the Palm Springs area and grows in abundance in the canyons. Other plants include the desert willow (Chilopsis linearis), Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia), and California barrel cactus (Ferocactus cylindraceus). Animals that can be seen in the canyons include Bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis), mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), bobcats (Lynx rufus), coyotes
