Bamahenge Orange Beach is a unique and captivating attraction located in the beautiful city of Orange Beach, Alabama. It is a spectacular replica of Stonehenge located on the Gulf Coast, and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. Bamahenge was constructed by artist Mark Cline in 2019, and it stands at an impressive 25 feet high. It features four massive stone columns placed in a circle around a central arch, just like its British counterpart.
The stones used to construct Bamahenge are actually concrete casts that were made from laser scans of the original stones at Stonehenge in England. Each stone weighs upwards of 3 tons and has been stained to look like real sandstone, providing an authentic look for visitors. The overall effect is stunning, and many people believe that this piece of art honors the legacy of Stonehenge while also creating something completely new and unique.
When viewed from afar, Bamahenge Orange Beach looks almost identical to Stonehenge; however, upon closer inspection some differences can be found between them. For example, unlike its British cousin, Bamahenge does not feature any carvings or inscriptions on its stones which renders it unable to tell us much about its purpose or age. Additionally, instead of featuring a heel stone just outside the entrance arch as Stonehenge does, Bamahenge features a large sun dial at its center which serves as both a nod to its astronomical function as well as being an homage to modern technology.
