Located in the heart of New York City, Lewisohn Stadium was a beloved venue for large scale events from 1915-1973. The stadium had the capacity to seat 25,000 people, making it an ideal place for cultural events such as music concerts, ice shows and circus performances. In addition to its grandeur on the outside that resembles an ancient Greek amphitheater, inside the stadium boasted state-of-the-art facilities like box seats, radio and television booths and private boxes framed by two balconies at each side. However, Lewisohn Stadium’s off track betting shop overshadowed its public use and after closing due to violations of construction law and lack of maintenance in 1973, one of New York's oldest stadiums was kicked off the map forever.
