John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, Nashville, TN

The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge is a spectacular engineering achievement in Nashville, Tennessee. Spanning the Cumberland River, this bridge offers an incredible view of the city skyline from both sides of the river. Interestingly, the bridge is also affectionately known as the "Shelby Street Bridge" due to its proximity to Shelby Street.

Designed by David Evans and Associates, the bridge opened on October 6th 2009 after being built at a cost of $15.2 million. It was designed to be accessible for pedestrians and bicycles alike, and provides two lanes for each way making it easier for commuters in Nashville to get across town without having to turn around and go another way. The bridge is fully lit at night with an array of LED lights that offer festive illumination on certain holidays like Christmas or Independence Day.

The bridge itself was named after journalist and civil rights leader John Seigenthaler who was instrumental in helping bring about desegregation in 1960s Nashville. During his life he worked tirelessly as an advocate for equality and justice for all people regardless of race or creed, and even served as a close advisor to Robert F Kennedy during his tenure as Attorney General of the United States. His legacy lives on through this pedestrian bridge which honors his commitment to social justice and progressive ideals.

Standing tall at 90 feet high, the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge offers stunning views from either side of the river day or night. From here you can see landmarks like Nissan Stadium, LP Field, Fort Nashboro ugh Historic Park, and many other attractions throughout Nashville's downtown area. During special events such as Fourth Of July fireworks, Music City Marathon, or CMA Fest there are often large crowds that gather along the pedestrian walkway on top of the bridge to watch all of these activities while taking in a beautiful view of downtown Nashville! The next time you're visiting Nashville be sure to stop by this amazing landmark that's become such an integral part of our city!
