Grandstaff Canyon Trail in Moab is a stunning outdoor destination perfect for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. With incredible red rock formations, lush green landscapes, and picturesque views, Grandstaff Canyon is an unforgettable experience.
The trail itself begins at the parking lot of the scenic southern entrance off Potash Road. The trailhead provides hikers with spectacular views, as it winds around many sharp curves before coming to a short descent along the path. From here, the trail follows a sandy wash for about 1/4 of a mile before a steep climb begins up to Grandstaff Rim. Along this portion of the hike, visitors can see amazing sights of deep canyons and amazing buttes surrounded by canyon walls. After climbing over the steep rim, hikers will come to an area that features some of the best views in all of Moab - breathtaking overlooks of La Sal Mountains and Arches National Park!
In addition to its beautiful scenery, Grandstaff Canyon Trail also offers an array of activities for all skill levels. For more adventurous travelers there are several challenging hikes along steep cliffs where visitors can scale rocky ledges or rappel down steep descents using ropes provided at certain points along the trail. For less experienced hikers there are plenty of options too; moderate hikes that weave through meadows dotted with wildflowers or easy strolls along flat trails through cedar forests are both fun and accessible options available on the trail.
Grandstaff’s diverse terrain also provides plenty of opportunities for wildlife sighting opportunities; mule deer, golden eagles, lizards and other animals often wander throughout this area so be sure to keep your eyes open as you explore! Of course no trip to Grandstaff Canyon would be complete without exploring one (or two!) of Moab’s secret swimming holes - if you look closely enough you may just find yourself beneath one!
All in all, Grandstaff Canyon Trail is a great place to explore nature in its purest form - whether you’re looking for a difficult challenge or simply want to take in its beauty from afar, this trail has something great for everyone!
