Fannin County Heritage Foundation Inc in Blue Ridge is a nonprofit organization that works to preserve and promote the historic, cultural, and natural heritage of Fannin County. Founded in 2006, the foundation has been successful in its mission of preserving the county’s unique history and culture. The foundation works to cultivate a sense of pride in their hometown by educating citizens about the area’s rich pre-Columbian indigenous history and its connections to the early European settlers.
Throughout its tenure, Fannin County Heritage Foundation Inc has achieved various successes in preserving local heritage sites and promoting community events. In 2009 it was instrumental in organizing the installation of a replica of an old-style covered bridge across Toccoa Creek near downtown Morganton, Georgia; this bridge stands as a testament to the area’s significant past. It also assisted with restoring numerous historical buildings, including two churches in Mineral Bluff: Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and Foster Memorial United Methodist Church - both are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In addition to preserving heritage sites, Fannin County Heritage Foundation Inc organizes educational activities such as lectures, tours, reenactments and more. Through these activities they strive to educate citizens on topics related to local history, culture and nature while simultaneously fostering an appreciation for its unique assets. Every year they host several special events such as Folklife Festival Day held at Morganton Point Recreation Area which features traditional crafts demos by local artisans as well as live music performances from regional bands.
The Fannin County Heritage Foundation Inc strives to create a stronger community through education and awareness while providing assistance with projects that benefit local ecology, history and culture. It continues to actively encourage participation from citizens who wish to support these important initiatives.
