Obsidian Dome, Mammoth Lakes, CA
Obsidian Dome is a must-see when visiting Mammoth Lakes. The trail to the top is short but strenuous, and the views from the summit are incredible. Be sure to bring your camera, as there are plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
From the parking lot, the trailhead is well-marked and easy to follow. The first section of the trail switchbacks through dense forest, before opening up into more open terrain. The last half of the trail is above tree line, so be prepared for exposed conditions if the weather is bad.
The summit of Obsidian Dome offers 360-degree views of the surrounding area, including Mammoth Mountain , Crystal Crag, and the Ritter Range. Don't forget to sign the summit register before heading back down!
