It is an annual event organized by the city's youth-serving organizations, held on the grounds of the University of Louisville campus each April. The event brings together people from all backgrounds and ages in order to celebrate diversity and foster mutual respect. With its main focus on providing a safe space for young people to explore their identity and express themselves freely, it has become one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the city's calendar.
The event consists of a series of free workshops led by experienced facilitators, addressing topics such as gender identity, sexuality, race, mental health and more. There are also talks from leading professionals in various fields, as well as art exhibitions featuring artwork from local artists. Live music performances from local bands add to the atmosphere throughout the day.
Each year brings something new to Louisville Knot; for example, 2018 saw a 'Youth Takeover' theme which encouraged attendees to take ownership of the event and shape it according to their own interests and perspectives; while 2019 boasted an impressive line-up of speakers including local celebrities such as actor/writer/producer Regina King and basketball player Edrice Adebayo; not to mention former US president Barack Obama who recorded a special video message especially for the occasion!
