Belvedere in Louisville is an area rich with history and beauty. Located in the heart of the city, Belvedere is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Louisville, having been founded in 1776 by General James Wilkinson. As a result of this significant age, Belvedere has many historical buildings from over 200 years ago that are still standing today. The architecture here is varied and includes Federal-style homes from the early 1800s, Victorian mansions, and a bevvy of late 19th century cottages. One such building is the historic Bickel House which was constructed back in 1802 and still remains today as a testament to early American architecture and design.
Belvedere also boasts many beautiful parks and green spaces including Central Park and Cherokee Park . Central Park was originally designed as a pleasure garden for residents of Belvedere by Frederick Law Olmstead who also designed New York's iconic Central Park. Cherokee Park is another great spot to visit with its rolling hills, dense forests, tranquil lakeside pathways, and plenty of wildlife to observe.
Belvedere Avenue runs through the center of the neighborhood connecting it to other parts of Louisville via public transportation such as city buses or light rail service which makes it easy for visitors to explore all that this area has to offer.
