When visitors approach Lake Havasu City, one of the first things they’re likely to notice is the iconic welcome sign. This unique sign pays homage to the city’s namesake, Lake Havasu. The backdrop of this sign is a mountainous range with silhouettes of a boat, a fish, and an oversized rainbow trout. Underneath these images are the words “Welcome to Lake Havasu City” written in bold red lettering.
This eye-catching welcome sign has been part of the landscape here since 1974 when it was first erected by local businessman Charles Tackaberry. As part of a promotional campaign for his business he created the sign using leftover highway signs from Arizona’s highway department and it has been an iconic landmark ever since. The original design was later changed in 2007, when a larger version was built complete with more vivid colors and more intricate artwork that better matched the city's aesthetic.
The current version of this welcome sign is one of many reasons why so many people visit Lake Havasu City each year. It serves as a symbol of hospitality and warmth, welcoming visitors from all over the world who flock here for its stunning views and amenities including its renowned fishing spots, fascinating museums, and miles of pristine beachfront property. Furthermore, this beautiful welcome signage has become popular among locals too who take pride in their city every time they witness it and show it off to their friends or family members visiting from afar.
