As part of a promotional campaign for his business he created the sign using leftover highway signs from Arizona’s highway department and it has been an iconic landmark ever since. The original design was later changed in 2007, when a larger version was built complete with more vivid colors and more intricate artwork that better matched the city's aesthetic.
