Grinter Place State Historic Site, Kansas City, KS

Grinter Place State Historic Site is a state park in Kansas City , Missouri. The park is located on the south bank of the Missouri River, just west of downtown Kansas City. Grinter Place was the home of Moses and Annie Grinter, who were among the early settlers of the area.

The Grinters were farmers, and their farm was a successful one. They also operated a ferry service across the Missouri River. In 1858, they built a large stone house on their property. The house is now a museum, and it is open to the public.

The Grinters were active in the community, and they were strong supporters of slavery. During the Civil War, their ferry service was used by Confederate troops to cross the river. After the war, the Grinters continued to live in their house until Moses died in 1873. Annie Grinter died in 1892.

The state of Missouri acquired the property in 1974, and it was made into a state park. The park includes the Grinter House Museum, as well as a nature trail and an outdoor amphitheater.
