The Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum in Houston is one of the most unique and interesting museums in the city. The chapel was originally built in the 12th century as a part of a monastery in Constantinople. In the 15th century, the chapel was moved to Greece, where it remained until it was purchased by an American collector in 1938. The collector then had the chapel dismantled and shipped to the United States, where it was reassembled and opened to the public as a museum in Houston in 1947.
The chapel is decorated with incredibly well-preserved frescoes that date back to the 12th century. The frescoes depict scenes from the life of Jesus Christ, as well as various saints and biblical stories. The chapel also houses a number of important Byzantine artifacts, including mosaics, icons, and sculptures.
The Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum is one of Houston's must-see attractions for anyone interested in art or history. The chapel is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
