Thomas Square is the central square of Honolulu, Hawaii. It is named after Captain William Thomas, who was in charge of the British troops that occupied the area in 1843. The square is located at the intersection of Beretania Street and Fort Street Mall.
The square was originally used as a military parade ground and for public executions. In 1845, it became the site of Hawaii's first public school, which was later replaced by Hawaii's first high school. The square was also the site of the first American Protestant church in Hawaii and the first American consulate.
Today, Thomas Square is a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike. It is home to a number of monuments and statues, including a statue of King Kamehameha I, Hawaii's first king. The square is also home to the headquarters of the Honolulu Police Department.
