Iolani Palace is the former royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii. It is located in downtown Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. The palace was built in 1882 by King Kalakaua and is the only royal palace in the United States that was used as an official residence by a reigning monarch.
After the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893, Iolani Palace was used as the executive building for the Provisional Government, Republic of Hawaii, Territory of Hawaii, and State of Hawaii until it was restored as a museum in 1978. It is now a National Historic Landmark and state monument.
The palace is open to the public for tours Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with guided tours available at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.; closed Sundays and state holidays (except Easter Sunday and Christmas Day). Admission is $21.50 for adults, $18 for seniors (62+), $6 for keiki ages 5-12, and free for kamaaina with valid ID and children under 5 years old.
