Dinosaurs In The Woods – Brontosaurus in Orange Beach is an incredible occurrence that can be experienced by those who visit the beach and take a stroll through the forested area. The massive brontosaurus, standing nearly twenty feet tall, is one of the most breathtaking sights found on the beach. Its ancient body towers above the treetops and its long neck stretches out towards the horizon. The orange hue of its skin stands in stark contrast to its dark green surroundings and its massive size makes it difficult to miss.
The brontosaurus in Orange Beach has a unique history that dates back to around 450 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed this part of Florida. This particular specimen was discovered by local paleontologists in 2017 while they were excavating in search of fossils along the banks of the Santa Rosa River. After analyzing their findings, they determined that this particular specimen was a juvenile brontosaurus – a species that was first identified in 1879 by Othniel Marsh after finding several examples in Wyoming.
This particular brontosaurus appears to have been mummified at some point during its life, as can be seen by the dryness of its skin which still contains trace amounts of what’s believed to be original scales. Its skull seems to have been exposed at some point due to natural erosion or animal activity, but even so it is still intact enough for paleontologists to get an idea as to how it looked when it first lived millions of years ago. It also appears to have remains of what could be remnants from previous meals including bits of plants, shells and other marine life items that would have made up its diet long ago.
