Founded in 1985, TSMACE provides unique and interactive opportunities for community members to explore and learn about Asia's many cultural contributions to the world. The center's main building houses a wide array of exhibits featuring traditional artifacts from China, Japan, Korea, India, Nepal, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and other countries across Asia.
The museum also features a state-of-the-art auditorium which serves as a platform for vibrant cultural performances like Chinese opera, Indian classical music concerts, martial arts demonstrations and other programs related to Asian culture. In addition to this impressive array of events and activities presented at the center, TSMACE also organizes various educational lectures by visiting scholars from around the world. These lectures provide insight into various aspects of Asian culture from both a historical and contemporary perspective.
Apart from its regular exhibitions and programs at its main facility in Corpus Christi, TSMACE also provides extensive outreach services across Texas. These services include providing technical assistance for educational programs on Asian art and culture; designing slideshows that focus on exciting aspects of Asian cultures; presenting workshops on an array of topics such as Japanese calligraphy or Thai cooking; organizing cultural presentations; leading field trips; inviting artists to lecture or perform; providing educational materials related to Asia’s art forms; hosting cultural festivals that celebrate the richness of different nations’ customs; offering grants for research projects on areas related to Asian cultures and much more.
In recognition of their dedication towards promoting understanding between different cultures through education and engagement with diverse people groups within the community, TSMACE has received numerous awards including two National Endowment for Humanities grants in 1999 and 2011. This center is truly one of a kind where visitors can have an enriching experience while learning about the fascinating traditions and customs associated with various countries across Asia.
