Lincoln Park Conservatory in Chicago is a stunning display of botanical beauty and serenity. Located in the heart of Lincoln Park, this grand conservatory opened its doors to the public in 1898 and has been delighting visitors ever since. It's home to over 4000 plant varieties and offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore nature's beauty and abundance as well as uncover hidden gems in Chicago's historic park system.
The beautiful building that houses the conservatory was designed by Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan, two renowned architects of their time. Its design features a Romanesque style with curved arches, intricate moldings, ornate stained-glass windows, and a towering dome that stands at 65 feet tall! Inside you'll find 8 rooms providing the perfect environment for tropical plants such as palms, ferns, bromeliads, orchids, lily pads and more. These are showcased on displays carefully arranged around pools of water or cascading across terraced beds while also taking into account the practical considerations of ventilation, humidity control and light intensity needed to preserve plant life.
Visitors can spend hours wandering through these lush gardens admiring rare specimens from around the world including South Africa’s Strelitzia Reginae (Bird of Paradise Flower), Chile’s Chusquea Culeou (a type of bamboo) or Australia’s Grevillea Robusta (aka Silk Oak). The conservatory is also home to a number of seasonal exhibits including fall bulbs, poinsettias during winter months and Easter lilies during springtime.
The Lincoln Park Conservatory is open year round for your enjoyment with free admission every day from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday and from 10am-4pm on weekends. Special tours are available upon request although please note that groups must be smaller than 15 people due to current COVID-19 restrictions. Whether you're looking for a tranquil escape from city life or wanting to admire unique plants not seen anywhere else in nature – come experience all that the Lincoln Park Conservatory has to offer!
