Breckenridge Alpine Garden is a unique and beautiful attraction located in the heart of Breckenridge, Colorado. It's a high-altitude alpine garden that is home to more than 300 species of plants and flowers from around the world. The garden was established in 1976 by the Breckenridge Nature Conservancy with the purpose of preserving the native flora of Summit County.
The sanctuary spans over 5 acres and splits into two sections: the Lower Garden and Upper Garden. The Lower Garden is accessible year round, while the Upper Garden is only open during summer months due to its higher elevation (10,500 feet). Visitors can explore pathways full of wildflowers as well as several ponds filled with water lilies, bog plants, iris, turtles and frogs. There are also benches for visitors to take a break along their journey or just admire the view from up above.
Breckenridge Alpine Garden offers visitors an educational experience to help them understand more about local plant life. Each season there are volunteer-led walks through the gardens where knowledgeable guides share interesting facts about each plant encountered on the tour. Additionally, they have regular workshops where they teach gardening techniques applicable at higher elevations so you can replicate what you saw in your own backyard!
Although it is one of Breckenridge’s smallest attractions, Breckenridge Alpine Garden is definitely one worth visiting when visiting Summit County during any season of year! Our five acre wonderland nestled between peaks offers something for everyone; whether exploring alone or alongside an experienced guide taking in views and learning about new plants and wildlife found in our beautiful state - there’s no doubt you’ll leave with an appreciation for nature!
