Phillips Square is a public park in the Financial District of Boston, Massachusetts. The park is located on Federal Street, between Devonshire and Franklin Streets. It is named for Phillips Brooks (1835-1893), an Episcopal priest and popular preacher who was born in Boston.
The park features a granite fountain designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. and completed in 1917. The fountain is inscribed with a quotation from Phillips Brooks: "Be patient and strong; wait for the morning light." The park also has a number of benches and trees.
In the early 21st century, Phillips Square underwent a major renovation. The granite fountain was restored, new benches were added, and the planting beds were redesigned. The park is now an oasis in the heart of Boston's Financial District, providing a place for people to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
