The park was designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and opened to the public in 1910. It underwent a major renovation in 2006. The park is home to a number of sculptures, including a bust of President McKinley and a statue of Chinese American doctor Wong Shun Leung.
The park is also home to the Boston Tea Party Museum , which is located on Tremont Street. The museum tells the story of the Boston Tea Party, an event that played a significant role in the American Revolution.
