The Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas is an incredible and important landmark for the city. Located on the University of Texas campus, it is a repository for millions of documents, photographs, recordings, and artifacts from the 36th President's time in office from 1963 to 1969. The library was dedicated on May 22nd 1971 by former President Johnson himself in a speech that addressed civil rights and economic justice. The building itself is a modernist structure made of concrete with an arching entrance and two large windows for natural light. Inside are classrooms where visitors can take part in educational programs and lectures as well as research areas with computers and microfilm readers.
In addition to the LBJ Presidential Library, Austin is home to many other popular landmarks such as The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum which houses artifacts from state history dating back centuries; Barton Springs Pool, located next to Zilker Park and one of the most beloved swimming spots in Austin; South Congress Avenue which is lined with brightly colored murals reflecting local culture; and Mount Bonnell which offers breathtaking views of Lake Austin and downtown.
