Urban Trail Asheville is a 15-mile walking, cycling and running trail that takes visitors through the most fascinating and vibrant parts of the city. Located in Downtown Asheville , North Carolina, this trail offers an opportunity to explore the sights, sounds and scents of the city in a unique way.
Featuring over 25 points of interest including historic landmarks, local businesses, public art displays and natural attractions, Urban Trail Asheville creates an immersive experience for tourists and locals alike. It's estimated that nearly 200 thousand people visit the trail each year to take in its beauty and learn about the culture and history of the area.
Urban Trail Asheville was created in 2005 by a collective effort between local businesses, civic organizations, outdoor clubs and arts groups. The goal was to create an outdoor space where people could enjoy activities such as walking, running or biking while taking advantage of all that the city has to offer. With the help of volunteers from all walks of life – including students, professors, business owners and retirees – they designed a route that would weave its way through some of downtown’s most iconic areas while highlighting all that makes Asheville so special.
The end result was a 15-mile loop with four different routes ranging from easy to difficult. Along each route are stops highlighted on an accompanying map with information about what makes each stop important or interesting. Whether it’s learning about sites related to African American history or exploring some hidden gems like unique churches or specialty stores tucked away in alleyways - Urban Trail Asheville has something for everyone.
In addition to exploring the various stops along its routes, visitors can also participate in guided tours provided by knowledgeable guides who can provide further insights into many aspects of life in Asheville. For those who don’t have time for a guided tour but still want to get a feel for some of downtown’s attractions there are audio tours available which cover everything from local music venues to historical buildings and other fun facts about each stop on the trail.
Whether you choose to explore Urban Trail Asheville on foot or bike – or just want to walk around taking pictures - it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience that will stay with you long after you return home!
